AP World History goes to South AfricaOur future in our hands. Remembering June 16, 1976 “One of the great liabilities of history is that all too many people fail to remain awake through great periods of social change. Every society has its protectors of status quo and its fraternities of the indifferent who are notorious for sleeping through revolutions. Today, our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change.”Martin Luther King Jr. Throughout history, we have seen our youth rise up in frustration and voice itself through action. We can no longer throw its hands up in submission to a future that has been laid before its feet. Rise, be heard, be felt, be seen, most important of all, be part of the change you want to see in your world. Today we celebrate the impact of the youth who made their voices heard. We commemorate the great sacrifices, lives lost and families changed forever. Today we set fuel to the embers of that what lies quiet in wait. Now is the most opportune time to take the baton and continue to liberate bodies, mind, heart and soul from institutional, educational, political and social bondage. No one is going to do it for us. Our time is now. Moments Carried in the Heart Remembering those who sacrificed their lives to set us free.
