On the eve of the visit of his Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, to South Africa, I recall my privilege in meeting his Holiness in Bangalore at the Women & Technology: 5th International woman’s conference in February of this year. The Vishalakshi award, which was instituted at the First International Women’s Conference in 2005 was in memory of the mother of H.H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. This award honoured women who have worked selflessly to make a difference in this world. It is such a blessing to have his Holiness visiting our country. Guruji, as he is affectionately known is a humanitarian, global leader and an enlightened Master. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has captivated the world with his simple yet profound wisdom of the ancient Vedic values of a One world family. He is one of the few leaders that have worked extensively in the Middle East and Pakistan on peace missions. I have personally experienced extraordinary blessings and awakenings from participating in the Art of Living. I give thanks for the sacred encounter with enlightened beings, such as His Holiness who gave me the wisdom, courage and light to face the challenge of healing with courage, strength, acceptance, calmness, faith and hope. Sometime in early 2006, before I suffered a double stroke, a colleague told me about The Art of Living Foundation. She encouraged me to attend breathing classes. I scoffed at the thought and doubtfully told her that I could never take so much time off work for a silly breathing course. Little did I know that The Art of Living would contribute to healing and changing my life in the most significant way imaginable. Five years later I am alive and have written a book, Infinite Grace which received His Holiness’s blessing – The greatest honour. I dedicate this Woman’s Month edition of my newsletter to Vishalakshi, mother of His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar for giving us her son.
