Affirmations are the things we think and repetitively say to our inner selves as we get on with our days. Affirmations aren’t only positive things our conscious minds say over and over but they can also be negative.  We may not notice or pay too much attention to what we are saying to ourselves however we will later notice them manifesting in our lives. This makes it clear that thinking positively as much as possible plays an important role in our lives.

The more positive the conversations are that we have with our inner selves, the more we attract positivity and allow it to develop in our lives. If we perceive the situations we are faced with in a positive light, this will allow us to process them easier and to deal with them constructively with a clear mind and positive attitude.

As human beings we experience all kinds of affirmations, some examples of these are like when we pray daily; when we collectively sing songs in church;  when we meditate;   when we visualise positive things and when we chant mantras that tap into our subconscious minds.  All these things help us, over time, to achieve inner peace and assist us in resolving turmoil in our lives.  Examples of our negative affirmations are when we find ourselves in trying times and end up thinking constantly about the situation we’re in instead of the positive side of it.  It could be something as simple as thinking about how to resolve the situation.  That alone is the start of a positive affirmation and may seem so small but is a great achievement because it’s the first step towards living a happier life.

Something to keep in mind is that affirmations are not only thoughts; they are also emotions that we allow ourselves to feel:

Positive Emotions:

Joy
Love
Peace
Interest
Happiness
Acceptance

Negative Emotions:

Fear
Guilt
Anger
Shame
Disgust
Distress
Sadness
Contempt
Restriction

When we are negative, we attract negativity towards us and when we are positive, we draw positive vibes towards us.  People around us can see what we are attracting as it radiates throughout our spirit. When negativity is around us, it can sometimes be very difficult to move away from.  We can drown in our negative thoughts with no way of pulling ourselves out.

Positive or Negative As many other things in life, affirmations will never work without us having faith and being able to let go of negative emotions. When we affirm good things and have faith that we will be able to move towards the positive, we are able to let go of the negative and allow positivity to spread throughout our lives. We can do this by tapping into our inner strength – the strength we may not even know we have.  On the opposite end of the spectrum, when we move towards the negative, we affirm the negativity and allow it to manifest in our lives.  During these times we need to find a way to help ourselves and change the way we think in order to move away from negative thoughts.

Faith is very simple but plays an enormous role in everything in our lives. Without it, we are unable to move forward, even in the smallest way.  Faith enables us to believe and have hope in the unseen.  When we believe and trust that everything will be ok, even during trying times, this is faith.

Now that we understand how important it is to be positive in all aspects of our lives, it is vitally important that we engage ourselves in constant prayer and meditation, that we put ourselves in surroundings that encourage positive thought and emotions and that we connect with nature.  It is equally important that we always see a solution or positive aspects of situations that we may find ourselves in.  All of these things will encourage positive affirmations that we need to keep our spirits high against all odds as we go through constant changes in the world.

Every single thought I have and every sentence I speak is an affirmation. It is either positive or negative. Positive affirmations create positive experiences, and negative affirmations create negative experiences. If I continually repeat negative statements about myself or about life, I only keep producing more negative experiences. I now rise beyond my old habit of seeing life in a negative way. My new affirmation habit is to only speak of the good I want in my life. Then, only good will come to me – Louise L. Hay

Let’s use our affirmations wisely!
